“The individual who wants to reach the top in business must appreciate the might of the force of habit and must understand that practices are what create habits. He must be quick to break those habits that can break him and hasten to adopt those practices that will become the habits that help him achieve the success he desires.”

You Can’t Send a Duck to Eagle School?

Mac Anderson, Founder of Simple Truths and Successories, offers a great perspective that we’ve been pushing for almost as long as he has. His short film, You Can’t Send a Duck to Eagle School, makes the point to “hire” the talent needed to do the job. You can then teach the product and even the industry. Through The Nielson Group, we offer highly reliable tools and strategies to increase your hiring effectiveness. Learn more at The Nielson Group or contact .

The message is valid. However, the argument that “leadership skills” can’t be taught or developed is very wrong. Certainly a smaller organization must hire the leadership skills. But a larger organization must have a leadership development program and take steps to ensure everyone in the organization interested in moving into the ranks of management is provided some level of develoopment. Bench strength is going to be the difference when the economic recovery takes hold. Those who keep their jobs need to be actively engaged in leadership development.
